It had taken Aidan much less time to track down Coraline once he knew her real name and the fact that she was actually only 14 years old. While he still wasn’t thrilled about the fact that he had thought Caroline was an adventuresome woman in her 20’s who had been very interested in him and turned out to just be a very friendly 14 year old girl who was affected by Island weirdness, he knew that he had been a lot more harsh with her than necessary. Aidan had thought that he’d found someone that was a peer, and when that hadn’t turned out to be the case it was a little disappointing. Now that he had adjusted to that, he realized he needed to make an apology.

It seemed though that Coraline really was being truthful when talking about how she enjoyed gardening so he only had to check around a few places before he found her. From how well the plants around the place looked, she seemed to be fairly good at it.

“I have been to so many waterfalls and gardens today, you have no idea.”

Coraline wiped a dirty hand across her forehead, leaving a smear of dirt as she turned to look at whoever was talking to her. Staring up at Aidan, Coraline screwed up her face as she dropped the weed into a basket and smiled at him.

"I also work at the vet's office and the Winchester too, so you know." Coraline said, offering her hand to him so he could help her up. Coraline liked keeping the Homestead neat and tidy, it made her feel a little better about living there not much but a little. "I thought you were angry at me."

"I'm going to spend all day looking for you next time, aren't I?" he said, offering her a hand to pull her up. He tried to remember if he was that busy when he was her age and decided that he probably wasn't. She was definitely not your typical teenager.

"And I was. I think I was a bit upset with myself too. I was a bit... disappointed to find out your real age," he said, holding up a hand to fend of any interjections he might make. No need to say that the disappointment was due to him being attracted to her. Of course, as sharp as she was, she might pick up on that.

"And despite what you think, genuine physical age does play a part in maturity. But that doesn't mean I wasn't... a bit harsh or that we can't be friends."

"Probably," Coraline agreed, taking his hand and standing up with a smile. There was going to be a next time which meant that even if he was angry with her then he meant to be her friend which was brilliant because Coraline quite liked Aidan. He'd let her fire a gun. "Why were you upset? I mean, why would you be disappointed? I'm still the same person."

Except she was a a good ten years younger, two inches smaller and she hadn't quite filled out just yet.

"I know, Danny yelled at me. He wasn't very happy with me," Coraline said before smiling brightly at him. "You still want to be friends?"

"It's just a difference between expectations," he said, glad that she hadn't guessed the entire reason. She seemed to be a genuinely good and interesting person, even if she was a bit... spirited.

"And yes, I still want to be friends. Just no more keeping things like age, name, and gender from me, okay? And no more firing guns until you're older. But I promise you when you're old enough, we'll see about getting you a gun of your own, okay?"

"What did you expect?" Coraline asked confused. Coraline was one of those kids who never got tired of playing questions or 'are we there yet?' with grown ups even if she was fourteen now. "I promise I won't. Well then, hello I'm Coraline Carter. I used to be called Coraline Jones but I got adopted. I'm fourteen years old but I was born in 1992 so that means I'm also nineteen but that apparently doesn't count. And I'm definitely a girl. Except that time when I was Stephen Colbert but thats an island thing."

Coraline held out her hand for Aidan to shake. "And Danny already told me no guns until I'm older because of the kickback. He was really mad."

"Ian Daniel McCollin, but I go by Aidan," he said, grinning as he shook her hand and momentarily sidestepped the expectation question. She might ask him again later, but he could avoid it for now.

"And I was born in 1754, which makes me 257 and I've actually live all of those years, so they do count."

"That's a lot of names. You don't look like an Ian, Ian's look more- they have bigger ears." Coraline said leaning up to tug on Aidan's ears before she stopped herself. "You're two hundred and fifty seven? Did you know Henry the eighth? Did you ride a penny farthing? Did you wear one of those silly wigs?"

Coraline grinned a rather teasing smile at Aidan.

"First of all, Ian's do not have bigger ears. Their ears are perfectly respectable sizes," Aidan said, crossing his arms as he looked at her.

"Second, Henry the Eighth died in the 1500's, yes I rode a penny farthing, and the wigs weren't considered silly back them."

"Ian's really do have bigger ears. It's like the law." Coraline said grinning at Aidan as he crossed his arms at her. Coraline sniggered before giggling before the giggles turned into proper laughter. Coraline smiled, trying to contain the laughter as she tried to seriously ask him a question. "Did it have a giant boat on it? Did you wear like those funny leggings with bows and ruffles on? Where you a- a Dandy?"

"Name one Ian with big ears," Aidan challenged. He couldn't remember ever having heard of an Ian with big ears. Granted, he spent most of his life in the US.

"No giant boat, I generally wore buckles with leggings, and you don't even really know what a Dandy is."

"Ian... erm. Ian Wright." Coraline said, though he didn't really have big ears but that was beside the point. Coraline grasped on something though that sounded like she shouldn't know and therefore instantly wanted to. "What's a dandy?"

"He does not have big ears, he's just the only Ian you could think of," Aidan said. He had no clue who Ian Wright was, and half thought she probably made him up, but he was sure he didn't have big ears.

"And it originally was wealthy men who dressed like aristocrats despite not being of noble birth. They took pains to look extremely put together."
